Cozy Living Room Decor Must-Haves For Your Home
We love decorating our homes for the season that we’re in. If you visit our homes around Christmas time, they are winter wonderlands and we love it! For fall, throw in a few decorative pumpkins and a nice gourd or two and we are happy mamas! However year round, we really love the feel of a warm and cozy living room. We love walking into someone’s home and getting inspired by their décor. We also spend way too much time on Pinterest searching for our dream living room! There are so many ways to create a cozy space, but we’re going to list some of our favourites below!
1. Throw Pillows
I don’t even want to think about the amount of money I have spent on throw pillows over the years. But honestly, they’re worth it! Not only are they comfortable to lean on and snuggle on the couch with, but they can add a nice pop of colour and dimension to a neutral couch or chair.

2. Throw Blankets
A beautiful throw can complement your pillows and couch so nicely. Whether you drape the throw down the middle of the couch or quite literally “throw” it over the arm, it can add even more colour and more dimension to your space. Not to mention, it’s convenient to grab when you are cold!

3. Greenery and/or Flowers
Take a read through Kayla’s blog post on low maintenance houseplants for inspiration. Adding a plant or two to your living room adds a nice pop of colour, and gives that warm, inviting feeling to the space. Don’t feel like taking care of a plant? Buy some silk flowers! There are so many beautiful arrangements you can buy that create the same feeling as the real thing.

4. Living Room Table Décor
This is probably my favourite way to make your space feel cozy. The possibilities are endless when it comes to styling your living room table! Take a decorative tray and stack a few books in an asymmetrical manner next to a succulent or a flowers and you are set! Play with the “high/low” aspect to have at least one item standing tall.
5. Picture Frames
What better way to get that warm, cozy feeling than to be surrounded by images of the ones you love? I’m not saying you need a crazy homage here, but a few side table frames or ones for the entertainment center will do the trick. Just be sure to buy frames that compliment your colour scheme and that pair well with whatever is next to it. (i.e. – you don’t want a 4x6 frame next to a four foot lamp)

6. Candles
My favourite way to unwind at the end of the day is lighting some candles and relaxing. Depending on your preference, you can choose to go all out and scatter them around, or go simple and have one or two out at a time. Candles scream coziness, and add in a season-flavoured scent and life is good!
7. Lamps
I love small table top lamps. Though you can buy some beautiful and tall floor lamps, to me, there’s nothing cozy about having a bold bright light shining down on you! And yes I know you can switch out the bulbs but I’m just sharing my preference! A simplistic side table décor would include your lamp and a picture frame. Add a small vase and flowers or a candle if you’d like!

8. Mirrors
The great thing about adding mirrors into a space is that they actually make the room appear larger. What I love about most about adding a mirror to a space is that it is a relatively affordable way to really pull together a room without really doing much. I even love the idea of adding a couple of mirrors side by side on a wall for a bit more drama. Your options are really endless with this one!

9. Decorative storage baskets
If you have children this is a must have! Even if you don’t have children, this can also be quite helpful in terms of keeping your space clean and organized. We have multiple storage baskets and containers in our living room. We use these primarily for toys but they can also be great for storing throw blankets or even magazines.
10. Wall Art
Having something on the walls instantly makes a room look put together. A room simply looks unfinished without any wall art or picture frames filling up the space. The great thing about wall art is that you can really let your personality shine through in terms of the pieces that you choose. The price range is also quite vast; you can really spend as much or as little as you want!

11. Shelving
The great thing about adding shelving to a space is that it gives you an opportunity to display all of the lovely items that we have talked about in this post! The options are endless with shelving, you can look at floating shelves or even do a tall shelving unit if you prefer. When it comes to shelves, we find that less is more in terms of the items you display as you don’t want to overcrowd things.

12. Area Rugs
Another way to instantly pull together a space is to add an area rug to the mix. I just love how an area rug can add texture to a room! It instantly pulls things together and makes the room feel complete! There are so many options when it comes to area rugs from patterns to fabric and even size. The one thing you do need to be mindful of is to make sure that the area rug you choose is the right size for your space. Here is a great article that discusses this for further reference.
