Five Tips to Grow Your Hair
Anyone else immediately want to chop their hair off the second it gets to the length you want? I am so guilty of this. I made the mistake of cutting it shoulder length about seven years ago, and I’ve had such a struggle growing it ever since. Now, I also died my hair dark brown and then brought it back to blonde which did nothing but damage! Having said all that, over the last two years, my hair has grown about five or six inches, which for me is huge. It’s finally at a length I am happy about! Today I want to share with you the five tips that that I found truly helped grow my hair. Please keep in mind, I am not a hairstylist, but these suggestions are what worked for me!
1. Heat style 1-2 times a week max
I used to curl or straighten my hair every single day. Using hot tools can do a lot of damage to your hair, especially if the heat is maxed or if you aren’t giving your hair any break at all. I like to wash my hair in the evening and let it air dry overnight. This helps me avoid having to use a blow-dryer at all! When it comes to my curling iron or straightener, again my rule is no more than twice a week. You know Kayla and I live off of dry shampoo. It’s a complete life saver and game changer so you can go days between washing your hair and still look fresh!
2. Sleep with your hair braided
This is something I recently started doing with the advice of my hairstylist Abbey Brookee. She explained to me that most of us sleep in cotton sheets that have thick fibers, so your super thin hair can get stuck in the fibers and will break off. By having your hair braided, it keeps your strands secure and less likely to experience breakage.
3. Silk pillow sheet
After I started braiding my hair, I figured I should ditch the cotton pillow case too and use a silk one!
4. Micro trims
I know the last thing you want to do if you’re growing your hair is cut it, but it is so necessary. My hairstylist Abbey Brookee is the queen of no haircut haircuts! Meaning, she takes off the bare minimum and only really touches the split ends, so that my hair doesn’t continue to break while maintaining my length.
5. Use scrunchies
You know I love my scrunchies! If you can, try to choose silk scrunchies over cotton. Similar to the pillow case, your hair will be less likely to get tangled between the fibres of the silk rather than the cotton.
I hope you find these tips helpful! We’d love to hear what tips you have to grow your hair.
